repeated MCU failures on Kenmore/Whirlpool washer

We recently (less than 90 days ago) had the Motor Control Board/Unit replaced on our Kenmore Elite (junk). At the time it had at least one burnt spot on the back of the PCB so something bad happened to it, obviously. Just the other day, that replacement MCU also failed with similar symptoms.. I removed it and sure enough, a couple of black char spots on the underside of the PCB. General feedback has been that _something_ in the washer is causing the board to fail... motor, drum bearings, something else? Anyone have a clue as to what would cause the MCU to fail repeatedly?

A board will fry because of excess current, which probably means a short or grounded circuit.
They are very difficult to find.
Sorry not to have better news.
