I recently had a situation where I put a load of clothes in the dryer and went to bed. I woke in the morning and my dryer was still running. The timer went bad and never rotated. At some point during the 7 hours the heat went out. I checked the ohms on the cycling thermostat (bottom left), thermal fuse (bottom left above cycling therm.) and the thermal cut-off (top right). previous post were unclear on which terminals to check for the fixed thermostat (bottom right). They say remove wires from one side (one side of what?).

Cycling thermostats red wires were 0.4 ohms, purple did not register. Thermal fuse was 0.4 ohms. Thermal cut-off was 0.4 ohms. Incoming voltage to unit was 240 +/- (before unplugging).

I'm trying to figure out what else I need to replace (in addition to the timer). Any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the delay.

Most likely the problem is a bad timer. Remove the wires from the timer terminals BK & BU and check for continuity between these terminals while the timer is in "on" position (any cycle). If there is no continuity then the timer is the culprit.

Here is the the Tech sheet.

- The timer Part number: AP3131541
