This dryer was not heating up. I have been trouble shooting it for a while now. The thermostat, thermal limiter, thermistor control, and heating element all tested ok at an appliance repair shop. I also installed a new control panel. Last night I decided to take the drum out and try operating it without the drum and test the connections to the element to see if there was power. I unplugged the connector to the motor and plugged it back in. As soon as I turned the dryer on, the heating element heated up. I stopped the dryer and then turned it on again. It heated up again. I thought that the plug must have not been seated correctly. After putting it all back together and trying it, there was no heat. Then after turning a few dials and trying it again, I got heat. Then it wouldn't heat. Frustrated, I took the drum out again and unplugged and re-plugged the wire from the motor again. When I turned it on, the element glowed red. I turned it off again and then without changing any dial settings, I turned it on again. It glowed again. Then on the third time, the heat would not come on. After letting it set for a bit, I tried it and it still did not heat. Then it would randomly heat up on later tries. Is there a relay or something on the motor that I can replace? It seems like it is all one unit. Do I need a new motor? Thanks

I would not think there is a short in the element. If I don't turn the dryer off, the element will continue to glow red. I don't let it on too long because I don't want to burn it out since there is no air flow. If the appliance shop tested the element and said it was ok and it also heats up when installed but does not consistently heat up when the unit is turned on each time, it seems like there should be a problem with whatever controls the power to the element.
