Help! My Maytag Atlantis spins but no heat is coming out. I am handy but definitely not familiar with this type of situation, or dryers in general, but would really like to be able to fix it myself...thanks in advance for any help

Hi Gayle, it seems a little slow around these parts today. Probably the holiday weekend has everyone busy. I'm no expert. I'm here to ask for help like you but, you can probably get started by checking some of the parts with a multimeter. Make sure you unplug your dryer first. Here is a link to show you how to perform the tests. http://forum.appliancepartspros...er-parts-continuity.html

I would start by checking power to the unit. The motor etc. runs off of 120 volts (half the line) but the heating coil requires the full 240 volts.
Try flipping the breaker off/on slowly a couple times. Sometimes you can loose half the line without actually tripping the breaker. If this does nothing, check the voltage at the plug L1 to L2 should be 240 volts L1 to Neutral and L2 to Neutral, both should be 120 volts. If OK Unplug the unit and check the wires at the terminal strip in the machine to make sure none are loose or burned out If OK Check the power at the terminal strip. Do this with the heater off and on. Be careful as 240 volts is lethal !!! |
