6 months ago we had the compressor replaced on our refrigerator. I noticed it didn't seem to be keeping things as cold as it should the last few months, so I called the repair shop who replaced the compressor. The repairman said the compressor was bad, but that the "sealed system" was plugged and needed to be replaced because not enough refrigerant could circulate. Now, I'm not a refrigerator repair tech, but something sounds fishy, and its not coming from my refrigerator. Is this feasible on 10 year frig or am I being scammed?
Thanks,
Joe

A common failure is a particle of contamination works through and blocks the capillary line.It is possible this contamination came from the new compressor, but a greater possibility it came from the old one. Installation of a high side microfilter/dryer would have prevented this.Check right now to see if they installed a new dryer, you should be able to tell new joints. It is like a two inch long, larger diametor copper device on the thin copper tubing coming from the compressor and going to the condense underneath. If there is none and the one there looks original, take a picture of it for evidence. The capillary can be carefully cut and flushed out and a new dryer installed with a micro screen filter. If you have a really dirty condenser, it's possible this caused the problem, but a normally functioning thermal cuttout in the compressor should have protected the compressor. I would opt to have them fix this under their warranty if they have one. Your compressor is probably ok, the real problem is a clogged capillary. Symptoms of a clogged capillary are no refrigeration, hot compressor, cool condenser and low compressor current like well below .9 amp. Your evaporator would have a short section of frost, or none at all.
