Dryer started making loud buzzing noise but still dried clothes. Then went from loud buzzing noise during drying cycle to not turning on at all. Then when I held in the on button it made loud buzzing noise, started drying, then buzzing went off but continued to dry. Dryer stopped after about one minute. A couple of days later the dryer went back to making a loud buzzing noise with no tumbling.

Sounds like a bad motor winding to me. Could be stuck in the start winding, that would give you the buzzing noise and would shut the dryer down after a minute or two.

Am I understanding that I need to buy a new motor? If so, do you know what the part number would be... or would it just be cheaper to buy a new dryer? I bought my dryer in Jan of 98'.

I am from Canada and the price of the motor, service call and labour would easily cost half the price of a new dryer. A motor is a major repair and expense. At 10 years, really consider the overall condition of your dryer and weigh out your options....I would consider a new dryer at 10 years. Good luck and Happy New Year :)
