Maytag Neptune Clothes Dryer
Model MDG3000AWW
Serial # 12283955UB

Problem:
No or limited heat during drying cycle

Description:
Drum turns freely.
Plenty of air flow out of dryer exhaust with vent disconnected. Less flow with it connected. The following observations were taken with the vent hose disconnected from the dryer.

When first turning on dryer, Igniter glows orange/red (measures 95 ohms when off and cool) gas ignites and burns for 30 seconds or so and thermal sensor on outside of flame tube opens (measured AC voltage across sensor. Zero volts while flame is on, 120 volts when flame shuts off). Sensor cools and resets (voltage across sensor goes to zero). With in 30 to 60 seconds cycle is repeated.

Sometimes on initial start up, this cycle will take place once, sometimes twice. Then symptoms change. After the one or two ignitions and burns, the igniter will glow as before but the gas valve won’t open and therefore there is no burn. Then the igniter shuts off for a minute or so. It will keep this on / off cycle up. When the gas valve fails to open and while the igniter is glowing I hear a rattle that seems to be coming from the gas valve coils. When I push a little on the coils it stops.

Coil resistance readings:
2 pin coil = 1310 ohms
3 pin coil: Looking down on the top of the gas valve
Front pin to middle pin = 1400 ohms
Middle pin to rear pin = 1970 ohms
Front pin to rear pin = 570 ohms

When the flame does burn, it’s spread out enough that a portion of it sometimes touches the heat sensor on the outside of the flame tube. This sensor sits at about the 1 o’clock position.

Thanks for your help.

Hello! I'm having trouble trying to post my problem, please help me and forgive me for using this reply, but the forum is closed for posting now.

My Gas dryer Model No. MDG4000BWW was exposed to 220 V by accident(because I moved overseas and took my appliances with me...love maytag) and now there is no heat! I want to know wich parts maybe damaged ( A friend from the States is coming very SOON to my house to visit and she said she could buy the parts and bring them to me), so I need to have an idea of the problem: if the 220 V damaged many parts ( a kenmore technician saw the machine and told me that the gas doesn't go out to meet the igniter; we saw the igniter gets red and then after a short time the red goes away ) It is maybe the Valve? this one states 120 V in the label? Thanks, very much,
A lady with no clue!

Hi,
I was just wondering if you found out the trouble with your dryer as I too have the same exact problem with my same model dryer?
Thank You,
Chuck

Hello Chuck,
Yes, someone from the forum send me an e-mail and he told me that I needed to replace the Coil Kit for Dryer gas valve, part. # AP 3094251, $15.86; so I did and now the dryer is working fine!
Good luck,
Cielo
