Freon odor in refrigerator and freezer, food, ice and water taste of odor

The smell and taste is a definite chemical odor

Thank you so much! This sight is wonderful and best of all it just saved me an $85 service call. I would have eventually found the reason for the smell...but after reading a reply in the forum about an "orange giving off the chemical odor" a lightbulb went off in my head! Thank You, Thank You! It has now been removed, washed out and I have coffee grounds in the freezer and refrigerator to help with the smell. I have also heard of kitty liter (but who would want that in there fridge) and crumbled up newspaper to get rid of unwanted odors, for those non coffee drinkers:rolleyes:

I had searched the fridge several times as did my wife, and we didn't find anything that could have been causing the smell. My wife keeps the fridge clean and free of old food, however after reading your post I did another search and found a very old lemon in a ziplock bag behind condiments on a side shelf. I removed it and the smell dissipated almost right away, I opened a fresh box of baking soda and out it in there and smell is now gone after 2 hrs. Thanks again for this.
