I have a elec dryer maytag Model HYE3657AYW. Won't start. Checked with VOM and have 220v at plug. Checked black wire comming into Push to start switch and have 124v. Checked the switch at door and have continuity on/off when door is opened and closed. I did not check the overheat themal fuse yet. Is there a way to bypass and test the thermal switch or am I looking for an open circuit to tell if it is defective or should i be looking for an ohem range? I am looking for a check list of what to check first and how to test each item if possible. I have the wire diagram and can follow wires to terminals. There is nothing to tell me what to look for and what to test first. Any input would be helpful.

Hi Pat
Sounds like you are doing a good job of trouble shooting. You should test all of the fuses/thermostats for continuity. If you have an open one you should replace it.
Since you have the wiring diagram you can trace the path of current and test everything their for continuity. Also check your wiring to the timer and the motor for any break or short.
If everything checks out you may have a problem in the motor, which is somewhat expensive to replace, you want to check everything else first.
Good luck, let us know what you find out.

I checked the overheat thermal fuse and got a reading. Is there a way to bypass and test the thermal switch? I have the wire diagram and can follow wires to terminals.
