I have a GE washer machine. I bought it used with a GE dryer (that i had trouble with too and ended up having to fix it)
Anyways... My washer won't spin now.. it agitates good and drains the water and everything but when its time to spin it gets stuck.. i have to help it with my hand then after a while of trying it starts spinning on its own. It does spin faster when i take out all the clothes out and then once i help it spin i put the clothes back in.. (I noticed it starts spinning faster when it has less weight in it) i don't overload the washer so it can't be that cuz even with no clothes i have to help it in order to spin. If i don't help it i just hear the motor running and then i start smelling a weird smell. kinda like a burn smell... (plastic, rubber burn smell)
what can be the problem? can i fix it? i don't want to buy a new one until im sure that this one doesn't work no more..

The problem with buying a used GE is that they are somewhat hard to diagnose, but more importantly the parts are pretty expensive.
Your problem most likely is that the brakes inside the transmission housing are not releasing, but can also be the clutch. Both of these are expensive and I would take the money that you would spend on parts and use towards payment for a new, very basic top loader. You can can one in our area for about $300.00 and that will be better than putting a lot of money into a previously used machine.
