GE PROFILE STOVE - GAS

Hi

I was told that the Spark Module was gone because one burner ignites only 20% of the time. When it fails, it still clicks, but there is no visible spark/flame. The others always work fine. Does this sound right to you???

If it is the Spark Module, where in the stove is it located. Is it adjacent to the burner under the top cover?

Thanks

Have you tried viewing it in the dark to see if maybe it isn't just sparking to the wrong place on the range? A cracked spark electrode could allow a spark to the metal of the cooktop, etc., instead of to the burner like it should.

A 'dirty' spark electrode could also be responsible for intermittent ignition at a burner as could a fluctuating gas supply nearest the electrode.

I don't know about the specific spark module used on your model (see the following link) but with others a failure of the module would often affect more than one burner at the same time but your symptom might be possible as well.

I'm afraid I do not know on your model, manufacturer's can (and do) put them just about anywhere. In the control console or on the back of the range are very popular locations and in the drawer area is another.

The module isn't usually under the top (as that can be a big job to lift) but that location might be a slim possibility.
