The drum turns when rotated by hand. Is there possibly a capacitor that can be replaced? Are there any procedures for verifying either the motor is ruined or the capacitor has failed. For a dryer this old, does it make any economic sense to try to have it repaired? Thanks

Most likely the motor start winding is gone and the motor has to be replaced. Your decision should be based on the dryer condition, not the age. - The part number for the motor is AP3094245 - Here are the break down diagrams for the Estate dryer Model TGDL600WN0Happy New year. Gene.

Thanks, Gene Getting the blower wheel off was a chore, but every thing else looks to be in good shape so I gues I'll try replacing the motor.

I vacuumed out all the lint (the lint chute was full up to about the blower wheel's mid point), lubricated the motor bearings as best I could and reassembled everything. It worked OK with an empty drum. I doubt it will last long (hopefully until my wife finds one she likes on sale) but I suspect it wouldn't hurt to pop off the blower chute every 3-5 years to extend a dryer's life--this one will turn 17 in the spring.

That much lint in the dryer may indicate a lot in the external ducting, just check.
