Came home last week and the wife said the washing machine was broken. Checked it and it sounded like the belt was off. Took the back off, the belt was off, put the belt back on, ran a load through, looked okay, put it back together. Today she tells me the belt came off again, which it had. The belt does not look worn, and it takes a bit of effort to work it back on the motor/wheel, so I can't tell if it's stretched or not. I can't see any way to do any tension adjustment on the motor. I did find a loose block of styrofoam when I first took the back off the washer. I think it goes under the motor, but I can't find any schematic to show where it goes for sure. I put the block under the motor when I first put the belt back on, but it came back out, which I think is what caused the belt to come off again. Does anyone have any idea where this block of styrofoam is supposed to go? Is it leftover shipping support that should have been taken out? Do I need to replace the belt or is there a kit for this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Greg

P.S. There is no indication that the bearings on the drum are leaking, and the washer does not make any strange noise that would indicate worn out bearings.

The foam block is not needed that I'm aware of. Remove it from the machine compartment. The motor is "Gravity" adjusted. No adjustment except by the motor weight. I would replace the belt and isolator. The part # is AP204967. Also be sure the machine is properly leveled and that all the legs are locked. Good Luck.....wrench:)

Got the kit but the belt is too small. Not sure what you meant by "gravity" fed, but this model has a bolt to adjust the tension (I did not notice that when I put the belt back on originally). I replaced the isolators and used the old belt, adjusting the tension to what I would on a fan belt on my truck. I think the belt in the kit would overload the bearings on the drum if I forced it on the wheel, even with the motor adjusted as close to the wheel as possible. Thanks for the reply though.

Hey Greg, thanks for the reply back to me. By Gravity..I meant the belt tension is adjusted by the weight of the motor. Did you get your machine back up and running again? I'm not sure if the design of the Neptune has changed..but i'll research it and get back to you, O.K.??..wrench:)

Yes, the machine is up and running and the wife is putting it to the test everyday. I now understand that when you put the belt on you undo the bolt and let the motor drop down to take up any slack with its weight, then tighten the bolt.

Thanks,

Greg

The new neptune 12001788 belts are hard to get back on because they are very tight and you have to be careful not to pinch your fingers when you slowly turn the pulley.
