GE Dishwasher, growling on start of rinse, wash and end water level??

Hi,
I have a strange issue with my Dishwasher. It growls untill the water level gets high enough. It washes normally but growls after every drain of water until it goes up.
I did some tests and if I add 1 Liter of water the growl goes away.
Here is what I checked.
1. Solid Food removal, it clean and there is water just below the tub.
2. I removed the spray arm and seems to be working, and there is some water just below the tub line.
3. I check the float and seems to be working correctly.
I'm not sure what else it can be.
Can you please let me know what else to check.

It is normal for these units to growl.
When the water is low the pump sucks in air and cavitates causing the growl.
Since the unit is washing good I would not worry about it.
Perhaps check the water level. It should fill to just under the heating element.
If you feel it is not filling enough, the most common cause is a dirty screen filter on the input side of the fill valve. Remove the valve from the unit and clean/check the filter.
Do not permanently remove it from the valve as it is there to keep crud out of the valve which could hold it open and cause a flood.
If it still does not fill correctly I would replace the fill valve.
PS: Be sure to shut off the power and the water supply to the unit. Have paper towels etc. handy to wipe up any spilled water. Get a small pan/bowl etc. that will fit under the valve then loosen the input water line let it drip into the container emptying it as necessary. This will minimize the amount of water spilled. |

I can see the water level at the soft level disposal grate. I also unscrewed it and made sure it was clear. To me it seems like enough water, but I will check the valve. Originally Posted by: denman  It is normal for these units to growl.
