The correct name of the part you called "aerator" is "air gap". This part prevents your dishwasher from drained water back up and is very important.
The cause of the problem can be a clogged hose from the air gap into the garbage disposer or if the garbage disposer has been replaced recently and installed improperly.
Gene.
