I have a Maytag Neptune Top Load, FAV6800AWW. The washer has stopped washing or spinning. When I start a normal wash the washing mashing will fill up with water, but when the tub is supposed to start spinning nothing happens, and the timer just counts down. When I try to put the washing machine in a spin only cycle nothing happens and the timer counts down also.I did the "motor control test" as specified in the service manual:
- Disconnect the power
- Open washer and disconnect the JP4 Connector from the Motor Control Board
- Reconnect Power
- Go into Service Mode (press Enviro Plus + Spin Only keys for 3 secs)
- Access Board Output test (press Delicates) -- displays shows "ot"
- Lid is locked
- Press Whites to start the Motor Control Test
The motor starts and will rotate the tub/spinner at 50 RPM.With JP4 connector removed -- when in Board Output test, I can fill the tub with hot or cold water, I can drain the tub, I can start the motor. But when the JP4 connector is connected the motor will not start. When the motor test is running, if I use a Volt meter to test the voltage of the wire harness between L1 and Neutral (gray and white wires on the connector that has only three wires running into it) -- I see a 120 VAC reading. When I disconnect the power and reconnect the JP4 switch and try to run a normal Spin Only cycle the motor and tub/spinner will NOT spin.Is this indicative of the Motor Control Board being fault?Do I need to replace the wiring harness between the Motor Control Board and the Motor? Is this the Main Control Board that is faulty?Any help in this matter will be appreciated, please.Thank you,Cameron

I ordered a new Main Control Board. After replacing the main control board the issue was resolved...! So it appears that it was the Main Control Board after all :-)
Thank you to everyone for your help, advice, and recommendations! I appreciated all your help.

I read the manual and the link... same problem Lr code...manual is very vague... i failed the quick spin test...no spin, but works in service mode w/ jp4 disconnected...no burn spots on either board or motor...motor ohms out good, including tach drive...I've deduced that motor is good, but which board is bad???? manual gives tests, but NO EXPLANATION !!!!!! Also door fails to unlock, coincides with no spin / Lr code.... after reading above, leaning towards main control board... anyone??

Yep the service manual is vague, I worked with this forum member on another board. If you don’t have a known good Control Board or Motor Controller to swap out this could be a difficult fix. The Control Board has a 5yr warranty. I got Maytag to send me one. But I voted for swapping out the Motor Control Board then the Control Board based on my work with cninham. He picked up a Motor Control Board and it did not do the trick… the Control Board did. My WAG based on the Control Board fix is that he lost the PWM control signal to the Motor Controller (which has a 2 yr warranty) from the Control Board….It might be worth reseating the plug connection on the Control Board associated with Motor Torque CONN-P25 which travels through the harness to Pin 3 of JP-4 via the main wiring harness 14 pin plug/socket. My understanding is the Motor Controller takes that PWM digital signal and converts it to 3 phase 120VAC to control motor speed and direction. I agree I feel your motor is OK (10yr warranty) the Tach input signal is OK you register 50RPM to the Control Board in Service Mode thats about normal speed in agitate/wash cycle. “”Also door fails to unlock, coincides with no spin / Lr code.... after reading above, leaning towards main control board... “” That’s is the direction I would go also without having a known good Control Board to swap out. The Door Un-Lock Solenoid relay on the Control Board K10 gets 120VAC from the Motor Power Relay K-8 you can see this on the schematic. The Control Board then signals the 12VDC relay Door Unlock Solenoid K10 to momentarily pulse 120VAC to the Lid UnLock solenoids to operate and change state of the push/pull relay in the lid locks, that is my observation with my DVM. Do you here the left/right lid locks try to operate in Service Mode? Does one un-lock and the other does not? Have you gone into Board Output test in Service Mode and tried to unlock the lid locks? Will any function work in Board Output test page 16 of the SM? I’m FAV6800AW series 16 owner/DIY'er. Take care.... Rich

Thanx for info...will look at that connector...prolly fine, as I've had the main board out twice....all motor control tests, main tests good except quick spin(all connected) & door unlock(no noise). I did find problem with ribbon on main board needing to sHift down in receptacle(all of a sudden only half of buttons worked). My 2004 motor says 5 yr warranty, motor control board 2 yrs.... 6 months out of warranty, maytag(whirlpool) said they will give 50% off parts...$80 for motor @$100 for either board...
