I have a washer that at first would have a hard time getting to start a cycle or would stop in the middle or stop and then later would restart. So I changed the timer. Now it will not advance in the cycle. Started a cycle and the washer overflowed. Good Times! Can someone help?

Here's what I am thinking, although not having your model number makes this somewhat speculative.
Your water level system is not working correctly. The timer will not advance because it is not being told the tub if filled to the correct level.
Check the water level mechanism and see if you have a tube from the water level selector that is attached correctly. If it is, and the water stops coming in when you shut off the cycle, then the problem may be in the water level switch itself.
Good luck, let us know what you find out, and if you want more help post with the model number.
