I've searched and read some of the other posts, but most are older and failed to relieve my search for an understandable answer that I could grasp the concept of. I "was" able to find helpful manuals and details for the dishwasher's components but need some more input please.
I was given a free dishwasher in good shape  and told it worked prior to my receiving it. After a struggle of finding the right parts to install it, and putting it in, it seems everything cycles and heats up well, but there is always 2-3" of dirty water left in the dishwasher at the end of the cycle  . The dishwasher doesn't drain in other words, and I have double checked to make sure that the drain hose isn't crimped or bent/pinched. It is a good heavy drain hose and so it wouldn't be collapsing when it heats up with the hot drain water. There is only about 6" in elevation from dishwasher drain port to plumbing drain port.
Can someone please help me troubleshoot and repair the problem? Being that it is a new install, the hose and drain are of course free of debris and clogs.
Is there a way to make sure that the pump is free of any residue?
Are there other areas I can test to check for obstructions?
How can I check to make sure the pump is working?
What are the normal tests for this type of troubleshooting scenario?
Thank you in advance for all help to be given.

Also if you could, remembering you are conversing with an appliance repair dummy, smiles....patience required and an extra special effort to describe scenarios to me please...
where exactly does this pump the inside water out at, so I can check for clogs or something?

Not sure if I have made it confusing, but finding the diagrams still hasn't enabled me to understand the inner concepts or how to troubleshoot this problem of not draining. Can I get some help please still yet?
