I have a problem with the dish washer, it will not heat the water. I have taken the side panels off, and checked the heating element, which reads 11.5 ohms. I believe Gene said that was what it should read. I have a problem with hard water scale, and would like to remove the element and check it for scale build up. The element is sold as a unit with the housing, but it appears to be removable. I ask because I don't want to break the thing, because a new element w/ housing is $187.50. Don't you just love it when they do that. Woody Guthrie said that some men rob you with a 6 gun, and some rob you with a fountain pen. Amen!

I would not recommend to remove the heating element just to check it for scale build up. You can run the Dishwasher Magic to clean the dishwasher instead of it. You need a clamp-on-meter to check the current in the heat circuit to see if it works. If there is no difference in amperage between the heat and no heat cycles and assuming there is nothing wrong with the heater itself (it has normal resistance), the problem most likely is a bad NTC. In this model the NTC is a part of the heater assembly and can not be replaced separately. That means you have to replace the whole heater assembly. I'm not sure if such old machine is worth it. Gene.

The NTC is a temperature sensor. NTC states for "Negative Temperature Coefficient".
