I have a 15 month old Maytag Dryer Model MDE4806AYW. The dryer turns itself off after running for anywhere between 5 and 35 seconds. I have torn they machine apart and cleaned out all the pieces and examined them; all the pieces look fine, no burn marks, etc. Currently all the testing I’m doing is with the drum out of the machine so the motor has no resistance from the drum. I have tested all the different setting including with/without heat and I get the same results. I only have to wait 1-2 seconds between shutdown before starting the machine again. They system usually stays on for about 25-30 seconds with a jump down to 5-6 seconds every once in a while. The only sound that I get is just before the machine turns off a snapping sound comes from the circuit board. I think it’s coming from one of the black boxes (1 inch x 1 inch) attached by one of the corners of the board, I’m assuming it’s a fuse. I have been able to pull the error codes from the system but the only one I get is ‘Power Failure’. I examined the fuse box and the switch was not thrown. I have turned the fuse switch on/off a few times to see if that affects anything and it doesn’t. Not being an electrician I haven’t done anything else beyond that as it pertains to the fuse box. One last bit of info. When I turn the dial to get into the service mode, it doesn’t seem that the dial works in a consistent fashion. The LED lights will jump around at times or not even show at others. Since I’m not the primary user I’m not sure how off the lighting is from normal use, but it does seem a little weird. The only thing that looked fishy was the belt around the drum looked like it moved a belt width toward the door. I noticed the wear mark was not where the belt was by 1/4 inch or so. Thank you, Jeff

Hi Jeff, The first thing I would check is the thermistor. Unplug harness connector and measure resistance from wire insertion side across pin# 1 and pin# 11 of PS5. It suppose to be about 10000 Ohms at the room temperature. Replace the thermistor if the reading is wrong. If there is nothing wrong then perform the troubleshooting as described in the service manual. - The part number for the thermistor is AP3466735 If you are going to test the heating performance, then all the moving and the cabinet parts must be in place to provide the proper air flow though the dryer venting system. Thanks Gene,
Not understanding Volt Meters very well, my tests showed 14000 ohms continuously. Is that bad? I have already run the trouble shooting steps that are in the manual and that is how I got the 'Power Failure' message.

The thermistor has to be replaced.

I just recieved the thermistor and it did NOT fix the problem. The resistance went from 14000 down to approximately 13500 though. Anyone have any other ideas?

Could you please repost the Service Manual so that I can see where to install the part after I order it? Also, is there a High Limit Thermal Fuse that I should also order just to be safe?
