I have this model which is not cooling although the coils are cold. I removed the back panel and found a fan not working. The fan number is 5SME44AS002A and is identified as a GE ECM Motor 115 V 50/60 HZ12A, 5.5 w, 3250 RPM. I assume this motor is not available as I have not located it. Is it available or is there a replacement and what is the number and where can I find it.

It might not be the motor. The defrost thermostat is wired through the fan. So what you need to do is cut the wires to the defrost thermostat in a way that if the defrost thermostat is good you can wire it back. So cut the wires and wire them up together, and then plug the refrigerator in, and see if the fan comes on. If so replace it with a 55 degree defrost thermostat, if the exact replacement is not available. By the way the defrost thermostat is about the size of a quarter and has 2 wires coming to it, and is mounted to the top of the evaporator coil. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Here are your parts Replacement parts for AMANA SXD25QA3L | AppliancePartsPros.comIt shows a fan kit Item 34 in the "Evap and air handling" section as being in stock. You could check the motor for resistance. If it is an open (infinite ohms) it is shot. Note that this does not tell you that the motor is good it only tells you that/if the motor is bad. Could also check while the motor is in the unit to see if it is getting 120 volts. If it is and not turning, it is shot. You could pull the motor, attach a line cord to it and plug it in. If it does not run it is shot. |
