Kenmore Dryer won't start unless PTS (push to start) button depressed and held

I have a kenmore elite dryer model 110.72992101. When I hit the PTS (push to start) button the dryer turns on. As soon as I let go of the start button though, the dryer stops. I rigged it up so I could have the start button pushed down and then the dryer kept running. However, when I do this, the dryer doesn't stop once the timer gets to the end of the cycle. The timer will go right up to the "Off" position, but will stop right before it, and then never turn off. Is it a problem with the PTS Switch, the motor relay, the the heater relay or maybe the timer? Something else? Thanks for your help.
