I bought a house last summer that has a Frigidaire Deluxe Cooktop. Not sure if this is original or not; the house was built in 1970. There is one burner that doesn't work and I'd like to know how to test/diagnose that. I also need to find new knobs, but the model number, RBB-100, which I found on a piece of paper under the unit, doesn't bring up any matches on parts sites. Generic knobs from the hardware store don't fit. Thanks.

That Frigidaire model is from the early 1960's. (not that there's anything wrong with that)

No, the electronic data available online mainly deals with appliances built in the 80's or later.

The easiest would be to start with testing the element. You can read about that at the following link:

Genuine Frigidaire replacement knobs for your model can be seen at the following link:

Thanks so much for the info about elements and knobs. I clicked on the knob info first. Is it true that one knob costs $26+? Am I reading price information correctly? Thanks.

That's correct (although the price looks to have lowered recently). The longer parts are kicking around in the manufacturer's warehouse, the higher the price usually becomes. Seeing as those parts likely haven't been manufactured in 20-30+ years and have been warehoused ever since, you can see how there cost could increase.

Frankly, I'm surprised they're still available for that age of product... at any price.

The parts place says those knobs are out of stock, so it could be that I won't be able to find them, if this is the only source. However, my current ones are structurally sound; it's just that the markings have disappeared over time so I can't see the heat settings. I'm going to try to rework the markings and see if I can get them to show up again. I will also test the element per the links you sent. Thanks again!!

If the manufacturer is actually out of them too, that is a possibility. The company will have to try to replenish their stock from Frigidaire to see if they are still available.

We'll keep our fingers crossed for you.

I was able to successfully refurbish my knobs by putting white paint where the markings were depressed below the surface, so the white shows nicely and I can see the markings again! Not so much luck with the bad element; I thought it would be fairly straightforward to remove it for testing, but that is proving to be not the case. It actually is attached behind a steel wall and I can't figure out how to get to that. The top doesn't just lift up, exposing all that. Any ideas? I can send a photo if that would help. Thanks.

The wires should plug directly onto the element. It should be able to be tested there.

The element's mounting bracket is screwed to the top of the cooktop. Look for screws under the chrome trim ring.
