Based on the limited information you have provided it seems likely the tech is correct. If you are lucky the motor will be ok, otherwise it might have to be replaced also. (smoke usually is coming from an overheating, stressed motor). If you want a more informed opinion, please give a detailed description of what happened and how the machine was operating. Thanks
