We're not sure what might have happened but suddenly the latch on our Kenmore dishwasher won't close tightly. When trying to close the door, it won't even shut flush enough for us to move the latch all the way to the right. The latch will only move about 1/3 to the right before grabbing. There is no give at all - it is simply stuck!! Since the door isn't even close to being shut, we can't even apply pressure to keep it closed and get the dishes washed (like I have read in some other posts). I am thinking it might be an issue with the timer where something might have gotten stuck. However, I tried twisting the timer knob around a few times to see if something would give - but nothing changed. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!! I have no idea what changed but after washing all of our dishes by hand (imagine that!!) :) we discovered that our door was latched completely shut. We have no idea how it happened - one minute the door wouldn't shut and then a couple of days later the problem corrected itself. I am rather baffled but certainly do not take it for granted!! I can't help but wonder if something was stuck near item #26 (of the diagram posted by Gene) which dislodged or moved out of the way on its own. I never got to follow the instructions provided by Gene but greatly appreciate his response and will save it for future reference. Thank you!! :D
