Model is from 1989. Fridge won't get colder than about 55F. I've cleaned the coils and replaced the motor recently. The freezer is fine. Motor seems to run almost all the time, very hot on top, and middle frame that doors close to is very very warm. Handyman says I probably need a new compressor (condenser?), and that they are pricey. Am looking for an inexpensive fix/repair, prior to deciding whether to go with a completely new unit. 20years old, ran fine until 2 weeks ago...ugh. No condensation nor frost.

It is possible that dirty condenser coils (didn't clean for a few years) damaged the compressor?

Interesting that the temperature is sort of cold, but not adequate. Model is from 1989. Fridge won't get colder than about 55F. I've cleaned the coils and replaced the motor. The freezer is fine. Interesting that the temperature is sort of cold, but not adequate. Upping cold control has no effect.

The hot areas indicate a condenser fan not running and dirty condenser coils.
Is fan in the freezer running. Evaporator fan.
Is there any ice build up on evaporator coils behind the back cover in the freezer.

performed a thorough condenser cleaning (forced air) and that did the trick, whew. The brush/vaccuum cleaner method of cleaning was useless....
