Hoping this forum can help me with a problem my parents are having.
My Dad says that our GE refrigerator's ice maker has recently stopped refilling after it dumps its ice. He says that he believes the solenoid to be good because he has checked it and it has current. He can also go and "jump" it manually from behind the refrigerator and it will refill the ice maker with water. It has just stopped doing it by itself. (I'm sorry if I'm not explaining this exactly right. I'm going by what he's telling me over the phone and I'm not an expert in this area.)
I do not know if this has any bearing on the issue. But this refrigerator has always had a very slow front door water dispenser (practically unusable). He said that recently he and a friend went behind the refrigerator and improved the flow. He noticed shortly after that the ice maker stopped refilling. Just additional information I'm aware of.
So, is there any advice/troubleshooting anyone can give us? Do we need a new ice maker? And if so, are there any part numbers that I need to know about in ordering?
Thanks for your time.

It sounds like he made sure the water inlet valve and water line is working so the ice maker is the culprit. The diagram of your model number doesn't show an ice maker so don't know if it has any replaceable parts to fix it.

Thanks very much for your prompt reply. That's makes logical sense. (Of course not the answer I wanted to hear, but it makes sense.) Just to be clear, I want to reiterate that the ice maker makes ice, dumps ice - just doesn't send the signal to refill it. It seems as if there is a sensor or signal processor that is bad. And because there isn't a breakdown of the parts of the ice maker to identify the sensor/signal processor as a separate replacement part, we need to buy a new ice maker. Is that correct?
Thanks very much. Now I need to find the best price on a replacement ice maker. Any suggestions?

Yep...I did see it after your first reply for $99. That's what my Dad was being quoted from the local Mom and Pop appliance store. But Lowe's is offering one for $74. So I thinnk that's a pretty good deal as long as he can take it back if it doesn't solve the problem. Thanks once again for your help.
