Can't get the blower motor to spin. When the dryer is turned on, the motor will get hot but will not turn. Read a post earlier by someone having same problem but they could turn the shaft by hand and that would start the motor, and the problem was solved by buying and installing a new capacitor. But after purchasing a new motor (from Appliancepartspros.com) with a new capacitor included, i'm having the same problem. (Which old motor was burned out so not sure if capacitor was problem first time)

I've checked the voltage going in and out of every connection on the motor, heating coils, and the timer. All show about 126 (meaning 110V as it should be).

Dumb question: Would the copper "detectors" on top of the drum cause a problem? I only ask because i tested for voltage between the two and got nothing....or should I be thinking another bad capacitor?

I think you need to do two things.

1. Determine if the drum is easy to turn. If not, it is hung up in some manner and that is your problem.

2. Check and make certain nothing is blocking the blower from turning.

Let us know what you find, and we will go from there.

thanks for your reply sidfink...

the drum motor is good and the drum spins as it should. nothing is blocking the blower from turning...how i know this is i can spin the motor by hand and can feel the air being pushed out from the exhaust pipe.

from what i've seen in other forums, people with same problem can start the cycle and spin the blower motor by hand and will start up showing a problem with the capacitor. mine won't go on it's own even after spinning it for a couple minutes (at which point the motor starts to get really hot forcing me to shut down)

Unfortunately, all of the symptoms you describe point to a new motor.

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.
