I'm actually not sure on the age of this dryer. We got it second hand. At any rate, the other night it was running when suddenly it started making the most awful noise ever, like a combination of grinding and squealing and buzzing. Now it takes a longer hold on the ignition button to start it, and when it does start it makes that awful noise. We are thinking it might be the rollers, but I'd like to hear of any other suggestions also.
Thanks in advance!

This is sometime a sign of a bad motor.

You should be able to take it apart and turn the motor, rollers and belt idler by hand to see what is making the noise.
