The braking/locking mechanism for the drum has broken or disconnected? When lid opened during spin cycle, drum freewheels until eventually stopping gradually. During wash/agitation cycle drum does not remain in one place, but instead turns one direction constantly...affecting agitation effectiveness. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks a lot.

The cam on the transmission pulley might be stuck from letting the brake mech. bite down on the 3 brake pads. Or your brake pads may have broken off. You can find them above the pulley under the tub.
