So, handle was coming loose, could peek in and see all 4 screws coming out.

Not without effort, removed the door, (part #5 in the diagram), but really just the outer stainless steel fascia and glass and handle.

Thought lock-tite would be a good idea so I would not habpve to come back and do this again. (I mean, who has to R&R the handle?)

Thought an extra turn on the screw would be a good idea.

Yeah, not so much. Tempered glass and one extra turn of the screwdriver did not get along so well.

Is the answer to how tight, "not very" and that's why they came loose?

Besides lock tite, any suggestions?

Cannot say but I agree with you that an extra turn on the screw could be costly so it is not something I would do.

Did you try lock tight?

Lock tight is sort of useless if the threads are too loose or coarse.
You could try wrapping the screw in teflon (plumbing) tape.
Or if push comes to shove epoxy.
Perhaps a small star lock washer would also do the job.

I like the epoxy AND starbwasher idea.

I never got a chance to see if the Locktite would have worked, I shattered the glass!

If I had to guess, over time slight movement of the handle wore out the handle material surrounding the bolt. Epoxy would fill the tiny gaps potentially and prevent that small amount of movement.

I like that idea. Thank you.

The rest of Saturday was better, removed a water cooled alternator from car, had it rebuiltnat a savings of $700+ vs refurb from dealer, and put it back in.
