so far, we've replaced the Door Balance Links... original lanyards were both broken which resulted in the heavy stainless steel door having no resistance when opening. After replacing those, door now has tension but will not stay closed. So... we replaced the strike (still wouldn't stay shut) then the door latch (STILL won't stay shut!) We've adjusted the position of the pulleys in door balance link kit to a position that should provide less resistance and allow the door to stay shut... it doesn't! The heavy door did fall open freely more than once before the balance links were replaced. :confused: Could this have bent the door hinges, causing the current problem. It almost feels like there is something in the way, but there isn't. You have to push very hard to get the door to close, and within a second or two it pops open. Should I stop throwing $$$ at this thing, or is there a good chance that replacing the (expensive) hinges will work? Could something else have been damaged when door fell open... more than once.. Thanks Gene... we had noticed those screws and have been meaning to get in there and check out the hinges. Will update this thread with the results. You guys have been loads of help, and again, many thanks...

Unfortunately we were not able to repair our dishwasher. We were however able to regain use of it for a while by, believe it or not, wedging a piece of wood between the top of the dishwasher and the underside of the countertop just above the area where the latch is to keep it from popping open! :o (it did sometimes leak little though) We even replaced the rubber seal or gasket... This may have helped marginally. I don't exactly remember how we got to those screws, but check the diagram on Gene's post in this thread. We tried adjusting the hinges, but nothing really seemed to work. I believe the hinges were indeed bent, or possibly the door or frame itself...but it seemed like a hinge problem. I remember the hinges were quite expensive so when we found a really good sale, we went ahead and bought a new dishwasher... Got a great deal on a new, would you believe, KitchenAid... That sounds like great news! Hopefully your result will be better than ours. :rolleyes: ...and no doubt on that timely lanyard replacement. I think that was our fatal error! Cheers!:)
