half way through a cycle it judt stopped with water in it and no power... nothing works... no lights

First is to check that the unit is getting power using a meter.
Often a dishwasher is on a separate circuit.
Check your breaker panel. Even if the breaker looks OK flip it off/on, sometimes you can loose power without actually tripping it.
Check for power at the plug if the unit uses a line cord.
Unplug the unit or flip the breaker and check that the wire nuts connecting power into the unit are OK.

Next would be to check that the door switches are OK.
