I bought a top load GE washer 4 years ago and just yesterday it stopped working. It will run through it's cycles normally except it won't spin or agitate. The water pumps fine but no spinning. I took the front panel off and found the motor and watched for the blinking leds. The led blinks 6 times. The tub moves freely and nothing is stopping this from spinning. I took the belt off, tried jumping the door switch, and tried the reset and nothing seems to work. It still blinks 6 times.

I just want to know if there is anything else I can do before buying a new motor and how do I know the new motor I buy will last. The GE motors seem like they are a piece of junk.

Just an update. I went home on lunch today and tried the reset trick by plugging the machine in with the lid down and then opening and closing the lid 10 times. It may have done the trick. I then turned on a spin cycle and the motor starting turning and the light codes don't come on anymore. Now the green led just blinks constantly, about once a second or two.I will put the belt back on later today or tomorrow. Anyone have any ideas on how to help with putting the belt back on?

Another update...

I put the belt back on and did a load of laundry. All seems to be good. Glad I did a reset instead of just replacing the motor. Saved me hundreds. My only assumption as to what may have caused this is a power failure/surge. Not sure what happened or why but the reset seems to have fixed all.
