Have a frost-free Kenmore upright that is about 10 years old. When the compressor is running the fan runs continuosly. then, intermittnely, the fan runs for 10 seconds, cuts off, runs again, cuts off, etc, etc. Is this supposed to work this way. thanks you very much.

You're model number will help someone help you. Which fan are you talking about?
The freezer fan may turn off when the door is opened and when the freezer is in the defrost cycle but what you describe sounds like an electronic control module or just the fan going out. Is there any clicking anywhere when it's doing this.

if it's the condenser fan near the compressor it's probably going bad.
