This machine has been working flawlessly for almost a year, then we had an extended power outage (days - Hurricane IKE). After power was restored the "clean" light was blinking. I have run it through the cleaning cycle twice using the kitchen aid cleaning fluid and now it starts to make ice, bin gets several sheets in it and then quits harvesting. The evaporating plate just builds up a 1 inch plus thick sheet that won't harvest. I have to shut it down, let it thaw, then when I restart things seem normal for a bit, it makes several sheets of ice and harvests them properly, then the harvesting stops again and a super thick sheet of ice builds up again. What could be wrong? Do I need to take it apart and clean it better?

This is the best site for ice maker info. Repairing the Whirlpool and KitchenAid Ice MachinesTry cleaning the dust bunnies from the condenser. I have a Kitechenaide also. Mine had a similar problem when it was new. The compressor started leaking. At first it over froze, then it wouldn't make ice at all. I doubt you need to clean the inside better. Is your machine still making slabs on the chill plate?

Turns out I had a small bit of scale on the edge of the evaporator tray which was preventing some slabs from sliding off correctly, once I cleaned it with a scotch-brite pad and the cleaner solution it worked like a champ!
