My washer is a Maytag ensignia, 7 years old. It will no longer agitate, instead sits still through that cycle and makes a ticking noise, like a timer. It spins out fine. Does anyone know if this can be repaired and what is wrong?

wanted to add that the ticking noise is coming from the control knob.
