My broiler element on electric range popped and broke and was burning as if it was being welded, lots of sparks. Turned off control knob but element kept burning. Had to turn off the circuit breaker to get the burner to stop burning. Is there anything other than the broiler element I should be concerned about?
Also - any reasons why the element would do that?
thanks

Just replace the element, occasionally when this happens it will mess up the control but most of the time a new element will fix it. No the was no reason the element did this its just something that sometimes happens and cutting the breaker was the best thing to do.

My oven element did the same thing. It as burning as if being welded and the only way I could stop it was to turn off the breaker. I want to replace it, but am afraid there may be an electrical short of something other wrong that caused the element to do this. It is a GE oven about 10 years old.

What is the complete model number of the oven? Gene.
