The defroster drain in our Roper RT21LMXKQ03 keeps freezing and the overflow drains into the refrigerator.

I've tried to fix it by attaching a bit of copper wire onto the heating element, but the water froze right around the copper.

Am I doing something wrong? Did I mistake something else for the heating element? Or is it possible that the defrost cycle just kicked in too late?

Pics attached. A=drain, B=heater element, C=my copper kludge.

That looks like a suitable fix and if you are getting water to freeze, the defrost cycle is working. Did you try running something all the way down the drain to the pan? I usually us some 1/4" water line because even if you have defrosted the drain and water runs down, if there is anything inside that may be slowing the water flow, it will freeze again until you push it out.
