Freezer side is set on 7 which is the coldest setting. The temp is 19 degrees and appears to be fine. Refrigerator side is set at 6 which is the coldest. The temp is 50 degrees until it is opened then it goes up to 54 or more. The bottom drawers stay cooler than open space at top.
We did have an electrical storm a few days ago. The power went out for a second or two - only long enough to stop the clock on the microwave, but not the stove.
Could a relay have been damaged or something else?
Also could a damaged door gasket cause this to happen?
Thanks for any help. Want to get parts ordered soon. Baron

Look at the bottom half of the freezer to see if there is excessive frost on it. If so you have a defrost problem. Also check to see if the fans are running. The door gasket can cause this if it is bad enough. Refrigerator repair guide

Thank you. I've now read the repair guide. We will try what is suggested. There is some frost so hopefully it will just be the simle defrost problem with the defrost timer. If it is with the heater or thermostat, we may need further instruction. I'm not sure how to access the defrost heater or thermostat.
Thanks again
