Our Whirlpool GU1500XTLQ1 "Quiet Partner IV" dishwasher is not too quiet anymore. There is a lot of noise during the wash cycle, that sounds like the wash pump is "groaning" under load. The separate drain pump on this model is still perfectly quiet.

In searching for similar issues on this forum, it seems like the most likely fix will involve replacing the motor. But before I did that I was looking for any feedback as to whether there are other things to check.

I've already found a service guide for this model. Removing the motor and pump involves disconnecting some things under the tub, from the front access panel, but then things basically lift out from inside the tub. There is a quicker/easier process shown for just checking the inlet side of the pump, from inside of the tub, where there are a variety of screens, as well as a "food chopper" assembly (basically on the floor of the tub). So part of my question is whether it makes sense for me to first make sure that there isn't anything blocked or clogged in this area. Could this be the source of the noise, rather than the pump or motor itself?

The wash pump and motor seem to be working fine - it's just that the noise level has gone up quite a bit. If it does turn out that the noise is likely coming from the wash pump/motor, then I guess an additional question is whether to buy and replace the pump and motor assembly, or just the motor (if I recall right, the complete assy is around $155 or so, while just the motor is more like $110.)

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Yes and yes. Check the pump to be sure that it is clear of debris.

I would buy the complete assembly is a lot easier.
Before running it add a quart of water to the unit pumps do not like to run totally dry.

Try adding a quart or two of hot water after the unit fills, just be careful to not overfill it. A low water fill can cause the motor to suck in air and become noisy.
If it now sounds OK then I would check the screen filter on the input side of the water valve for a partial plug. If dirty clean it. Do not permanently remove it from the valve as it is there to keep crud out of the valve which could hold it open and cause a flood.
