Rank: Member Groups: Registered Joined: 4/3/2009(UTC) Posts: 3		Could the line just be plugged up and a good manual defrost be the answer ( this happened at least two times on my current refrigerator) or could it be the defrost thermostate, timer, or heater breakdown. It is like a glacier heading for the door from the back of the freezer and the area in the back is filled with ice. If I call for service, what will probably be done and how long will it take to get it fixed. The freezer is packed and if it takes a length of time to fix/manually defrost. What measures can I take to keep the contents from thawing. thanks

Rank: Advanced Member Groups: Senior Expert Joined: 3/10/2009(UTC) Posts: 1,363		You don't need to defrost, just remove whatever you need to to access the drain in the back of the freezer at the bottom. Get the ice out of the drain and blow through the drain with a turkey baster, compressed air or stick a tube in it and blow till water will run through it quick enough so it doesn't freeze.

Check the defrost heater then the defrost thermostat. If they are ok the problem is the defrost timer or adaptive defrost control which ever your have.
