A couple weeks before Christmas last year, the freezer side of my refrigerator start defrosting but notice that the back panel have iced up. Somebody recommended me to uplug the unit for 24 hours to defrost the unit then plug it back in. She thinks its the Defrost control is acting up. It seemed to work until yesterday, when it start doing the same thing. If it is the defrost control (thermostat?) how hard is it to replace? Do I need to break the system?

check d defrost heater, defrost thermostat. Refrigerator Repair Guide: How To Fix a Refrigerator - ACME HOW TO.com

If they are ok the problem will be the motherboard. Part 801 on the diagram of your sealed system & motherboard. Replacement parts for GE GSH22KGRBBB | AppliancePartsPros.com

You don't have to brake the system and it's not very difficult.
