i have a side by side ge tfx25jpceww. with dual elements broken. i went to ge's site and found two part # HEATER HARNESS DEF ASM WR51X10029 HEATER & BRACKET ASM WR51X10055 old WR51X10030 i dont know if i need to buy both elements or if ge converted it to one. mabby thats why they sell the harness and dont offer a dual ellement combo. i also wonder if i could use the long combo instead. ive been able to rearch and found out its 500 watts where the 10055 is 750 watts. would it just burn out or would replacing the tstat that comes with the combo solve that problem. i have read somewhere that the tstat acts like a resistor (dont know if thats true) i asked ge this question and all they could tell me was they dont offer tech support for free anymore. even that this was only a sales question to me. so thanks for any help for a house with 4 kids i need to get this fixed ive been defrosting it myself for the last 7 months now. (not that im cheap just lost job from downturn) and i found a great way to defrost myself using boling water (steam)once a week without taking it apart. im just getting tired of messing with it now. so thanks for any info

Here is the parts breakdown Replacement parts for GE TFX25JPCEWW | AppliancePartsPros.com i went to ge's site and found two part # HEATER HARNESS DEF ASM WR51X10029 HEATER & BRACKET ASM WR51X10055 old WR51X10030 i dont know if i need to buy both elements or if ge converted it to one. mabby thats why they sell the harness and dont offer a dual ellement combo. Take a look at Item 230 in the Freezer section. If you click on the picture it will give you better views and you will see it comes with instructions on changing a dual to a single element. I assume this is an upgrade. i also wonder if i could use the long combo instead. ive been able to rearch and found out its 500 watts where the 10055 is 750 watts. would it just burn out or would replacing the tstat that comes with the combo solve that problem. i have read somewhere that the tstat acts like a resistor (dont know if thats true) I would go with the recommended upgrade. Not sure the dual may be 500 per heater. No the thermostat is not like a resistor. It is a switch which is closed when frozen and opens just above freezing. It kills power to the defrost element once the coils are defrosted and prevents excessive heat being put into the freezer compartment. Lets say the defrost cycle is 30 minutes but the ice is gone in twenty, the defrost cycle will continue but the heater is turned off for the last 10 minutes. i asked ge this question and all they could tell me was they dont offer tech support for free anymore. This is only one of the reasons I do not buy GE anymore. They make it difficult to get any tech info. I guess they like to keep their tech's busy. They probably make a better profit margin from service than the sale of the appliance. Does seem strange that the update is from a dual to a single usually it is the other way around. Though the upgrade AP2071521 is not too bad at $48.99. Perhaps someone else has a comment on this |
