We had an ice storm and power outage and now my Mothers fridge quit working. There is power coming in, but not going to the fan, compressor, defrost heater, timer?? The light comes on but that is all. The electrical diagram shows some bi-metals but with the sealed back on this model the wires are hard to get to. Don't have anything but the electrical diagram? any suggestions on what to check for?

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL ED22TEXHW00 | AppliancePartsPros.com

Here is the tech sheet

As you can see the thermostat controls the power to most of the unit.
Unplug the unit and measure it for continuity with a meter.
Should be 0 ohms.
If you do not have a meter you can unplug the unit.
Remove the wires from the thermostat.
Short them together.
Tape them up so they cannot short to anything else.
Plug it in and give it a try.
If it runs, you need a new thermostat.

If it does not run rotate the defrost timer while plugged in.
Just to make sure you are not in a defrost cycle.

Let us know how it goes or not go.

The thermostate seems fine. Turned the defrost timer and nothing. Checked for continuety and it was bad. Replaced it with a similar timer that I had and still nothing. What next?

I shorted the thermostat and it came on. It's been running a while but not cooling. It should cool with the thermostat shorted, right:confused: The

compressor and fan are both running.

Give it some time. You said the fan is running are both fans running (compressor and freezer)

Will the refridgerator cool without the thermostat hooked up?

No.
But a qualified no, if the thermostat's wires are shorted together it will run/cool but will not regulate the temperature and the compressor will never shut off.

I let it run for a couple of hours and no cooling at all. I guess the power surge took out the timer, thermostat and compressor!??
