After starting a load to wash, the unit will shut down and show F1 on the display. By pressing the cancel/pause button and then the start button it will start again and continue the run but will stop at various points along the cycle which will require pressing the cancel/pause button and the start button each time it stops to eventually get it through the complete cycle.
Before buying the an electronic control board or user interface board, I would appreciate your advise and recommendation as to what the cause could be and proper repair procedure.

That error code is for a failure of the primary control board.
You will need to replace it to be sure of the diagnosis. If you buy from this site and the board does not fix the problem you can return it, see the returns policy for details and conditions.

Thanks for your reply. I contacted Whirlpool and found out this was a recall item and that they sent letters out approximately 2 year ago, which we never received.
