Maytag top freezer, no ice maker, purchased 01/2004. Evaporator fan motor replaced 12/2004, 2/2009 and 08/2011. Replacement part = 61005935, made in the US. My assumption is that the part itself is not at fault. Could a power issue in my home be causing the motor to die? Is there something else in the refrigerator that would cause this? Or is this just a lemon and I should look to replace it? Other than this repeated problem, it's been a fine unit.

These motors fail from water damage. I would replace it with a AP4503254 universal motor, consumes more power, but rarely fails, much better design. Comes as a reversible motor with grommets to stiffen up the end mounting.

I appreciate your quick reply. I'll admit I don't understand how the sealed unit 61005935 could end up with water damage (perhaps that's why I don't do appliance repair for a living). AP4503254 is certainly a better price. How much trouble am I going to get into by cutting the existing wires to remove those plastic plugs that connect 61005935 now? This is a 'no going back' kind of repair.

The universal motor will need to be reversed for your application, the old connector wires spliced in, and grommets added to firm up the mounts. If you feel this is too hard to do, order the original one.
