I have a microwave that is four years old . While cooking it started making a loud deep humming sound while cooking and then I smelled an electrical smell. I plan on not repairing it if its the transformer or the magnetron as I have little future faith in an appliance that only last four years. I would like the professionals opinion as to what it might be. Could it be just a diode or the capacitor? Also the unit does not heat food anymore

It could be a diode, transformer or magnetron. You have to have a simple Ohmmeter to perform the troubleshooting.
