Our side-by-side Maytag was moved from New Mexico to Texas at the beginning of July. It was allowed to sit for a few days unplugged prior to the move, and again before restarting.

For 3 weeks there were no problems. Then suddenly both the fridge and freezer stopped cooling the same day. No air circulates. No fans run. It is warm in both sides. The light, however, does work.

While cleaning up the mess I noticed the arm on the icemaker was down to make ice, though the unit is not hooked up to water. I don't know how long this was down, or if it is even related.

I have tried unplugging it, then plugging it back in. No sounds - just the light when the door opens. I checked the coils in the back: they are clean as a whistle. (Not really sure how since I'm not the best housekeeper...)

Am I looking at a compressor issue, a fan issue, a thermostat or what?

The first thing I did when it quit was to unplug, wait, replug. Nothing. The next thing was to move the thermostat switches. Nothing. Then I checked the coils. All clean.

I hate to show my gender, but I need more details about locating the thermostat & adapdtive defrost board. :o

I have the control cover off the fridge side. I'm looking at 2 light bulbs, some styrofoam, a hard plastic box in the far right corner, a metal box left of the water filter, a flat metal panel along the top.

Where is the thermostat and the adaptive defrost board in all this? PLEASE tell me it's up there after the fight to get that *!%#@ cover off. Although if it's by the coils, it will be easier. At 5' reaching the top of the fridge is challenging.
