My side by side whirpool fridge will not freeze or cool on the top shelves, also it isn't making ice. There is frost in the back of the freezer up to the icemaker. I was told it may be an evaporator fan out? Please help, it's only a couple of years old and I don't want to buy a new one. Thanks.

Yes it could be that the evaporator (freezer) fan is not running.
Check it, it is Item 7 in Section 10 in the freezer.
The fan is required to circulate the air in the unit.

If the fan is OK remove the rear cover in the freezer.
If the coils are heavily iced/frosted up you have a defrost problem.

Here is a good site with basic fridge repair info.
